Residents in Filton can make history, says Green Party leader Carla Denyer

Carla Denyer and Campaigners.

Carla Denyer, co-leader of the Green Party, joined campaigners in Filton today (29th April) to support Green councillor candidates Dan Boardman and Jenny Vernon ahead of local elections on 4th May.

The Greens are hoping to break through onto Tory-controlled South Gloucestershire Council following their success in neighbouring Bristol, where they are now the largest party.

Carla Denyer said, “I’ve come here today to support Dan and Jenny in their campaign to get elected, and to help give local people a voice for change. Voters in Filton feel forgotten. This May they have the chance to make history and elect the first Green councillors to South Glos Council. Dan and Jenny will be joining hundreds of other Greens making a difference in towns and cities right across the country.”

The Green Party are standing in more seats in South Gloucestershire than ever before.

Dan Boardman, who is currently a Town councillor in Filton and is running alongside Jenny Vernon for the two seats up for grabs in Filton ward, said, “Residents tell me that they are tired of feeling left behind. We’re running to give them a strong, independent voice on issues like tackling harmful growth in Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMOs), repairing our roads, and making sure the council steps up to face the climate emergency head on. Change in South Glos starts right here in Filton.”
