Green Party announces candidates for all four South Gloucestershire constituencies

South Gloucestershire Green Party is delighted to announce general election candidates for all four parliamentary constituencies within the district.

In Filton and Bradley Stoke, we will be represented by James Nelson, who is a Bradley Stoke Town Councillor and law student. He said:

“I am deeply honoured to have been selected to stand for the Green Party in my home constituency of Filton and Bradley Stoke. Having lived in the area since I was around two years old, seen the old established parties fail this area, and faced the consequences of nearly a decade and a half of Tory rule, I know we need fresh change for a fairer, greener country.”

In Thornbury and Yate, Alexandra Jenner-Fust brings a wealth of experience from working in schools, with nature and in voluntary roles in the local community. She said:

“I’m delighted to be able to offer people in Thornbury and Yate the chance to vote Green in the next election. We are the only party putting the climate first, but we’re about much more than that, with sensible policies to tackle the cost of living crisis, improve the way housing is delivered, prioritise public transport and build a fairer society for everyone.”

Lorraine Francis, a social worker in Kingswood and Bristol City Councillor, has been selected for Bristol North East (the constituency that spans Bristol and South Gloucestershire). Lorraine also recently campaigned as the Green candidate in the Kingswood by-election. She said:

“The Kingswood by-election highlighted many concerns for local people that are not being adequately addressed by the largest Westminster parties. Concerns around school provision for children with additional needs, tackling issues around drug use and crime, improving public transport and protecting our natural world. As your MP I would be a vote for our local community on all these issues.”

The fourth candidate is Edmund Cannon, an economist at the University of Bristol and a Keynsham Town Councillor. Edmund will represent North East Somerset and Hanham (the constituency that is shared with Bath and North East Somerset). He said:

"I joined the Green Party because I am passionately committed to preserving the environment. I am also impressed that the Green Party is much more honest about the financial challenges that we face and more innovative in thinking how to address these issues. As a Green MP I would relish the opportunity to bring my specialist skills to help improve British society."

We are fortunate to have four very strong candidates who all live in their constituencies and know well the concerns of their local communities. They all bring considerable expertise from their professional lives and public service and are committed to representing their local communities in Westminster.
