Parliamentary candidate, Bristol North East

Lorraine Francis

I was born and live in Bristol.

I have been affiliated to the Green Party since 2010, eventually standing as a parliamentary candidate in 2015, 2017 and, most recently, in the Kingswood by-election in 2024. I was elected as a Councillor in 2021 in Eastville and have a tremendous amount of respect for the community.

I am standing as I feel that politics must change. Too many of our MP’s have changed the way that Great Britain is being managed, this includes how our taxes are spent and our involvement in international affairs.

The Conservative Government, under the present regime has issued licences for deep sea oil contracts which we as a country subsidise but where we as British people will not benefit. As the oil and gas produced will simply be sold on the global market. This does not mean that we will financially benefit. The increase in the use of fossil fuel, will not allow the UK to meet its target of 1.5* C.

There is also a plan to increase the volume of nuclear sites, in the UK. Is this what we want? What we currently have is a reduced investment in Health and Social care and the ongoing emphasis on immigration, maintaining that immigration is the cause for the terrible decisions being made in the UK. Labour have been implicit in the deterioration in our NHS, and this mess is being supported by the Conservatives. Labour says that they will not overturn any of the decisions put in place to date, by the Conservatives but the Conservative MP resigned because of his own party’s stance on climate change.

I care deeply about many things, Health and Social care, keeping the NHS as a public and accessible service and I am passionate about equality and fairness. As a councillor, I am currently the Shadow Cabinet lead for Health and Social Care; I chair HR committee and sit on planning. I care about the housing crisis because unless you have a well-paying job, the housing market is out of the reach of most hard-working people. Hopefully, we can introduce the concept of bringing abandoned houses back to life, to help tackle the housing shortage.
In the Bristol North East constituency, there are a variety of different issues which affect residents. You want to protect your green spaces and improve air quality as well as maintaining your heritage including buildings.

If you want a hard-working MP, who understands the area, then this is your opportunity to elect someone different who will work alongside residents and listen and support your range of community needs.
