Insects check out – and into – bug hotels in Emersons Green Town Council Notice Boards

Emersons Green Town Council has installed two innovative notice boards in the park which feature insect habitats.

A Haven for Biodiversity

These recently installed notice boards from Green Earth Habitats serve as more than just information hubs; they are designed to provide sanctuary for the insects which are the bedrock of our ecosystem. The incorporation of bug hotels into the notice boards enhances their functionality and creates valuable habitats for bees, butterflies, ladybirds, and other beneficial insects.  It also reinforces the commitment the council has to protecting our environment.

Community Nature Reserve

In addition to the bug hotels, Emersons Green Town Council launched a community nature reserve in 2023, further underscoring their dedication to preserving and enhancing natural surroundings. The reserve is formed of a network of gardens where residents commit to gardening for nature. Recognising that together, the UK’s 24 million gardens are larger than all our National Nature Reserves combined.  (source https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/blog/2023/04/increase-garden-biodiversity/)  Managed in a nature friendly way that’s a lot of extra habitat and corridors for nature.

Focused on Nature and the Climate Emergency

Town Councillor and Green Party Member Kelly Allen said: ‘As a council, we recognize the urgent need to address the climate emergency and safeguard our planet for future generations. By prioritizing nature conservation and sustainability initiatives, we are taking proactive steps to mitigate the impacts of climate change and promote a greener, more resilient community.  I am very grateful to the team involved in bringing an idea I saw on Instagram into reality in our park.’
