South Gloucestershire Green Party wholeheartedly supports the Climate & Ecology Bill and a proposed motion for South Gloucestershire council to declare an ecological emergency.
The Climate and Ecology Bill, sponsored by Green Party MP Caroline Lucas, would require the United Kingdom to achieve climate and nature targets in an effort to halt the decline of British wildlife and combat climate change.
We hope that the bill will be reintroduced in this new session of Parliament and we encourage MPs to support it.
We also support a motion being presented to South Gloucestershire Council on the 18th of May by Councillor Katie Cooper (Labour), which calls on the council to formally declare an ecological emergency and support the Climate & Ecology Bill.
Local councils have an important role to play in protecting wildlife, and building a greener, safer future for our communities. We call on councillors from all parties to come together and support this motion.
The motion will be debated at the Council meeting on Wednesday 18th May, which will be held at 7.30pm in the Civic Centre in Kingswood. The public are welcome to join the meeting and comment on this (and any) motion.
